Ellipses

One of my favourite blogs is Death Wears Diamond Jewellery. Sarah Hannah has this amazing writing style - a true, natural and quick prose that flips through experiences in a way that makes you nod your head and wonder 'how did she know?' I love her eclectic mix of internet trawling finds, and I hope she doesn't mind that I am borrowing a format of hers for what will hopefully become a regular feature (in an attempt to bring some structure to my own inadequate sporadic blogging style).

Listening… to Montreal band Stars. So very excited to be seeing them play in London soon. I saw them play in Sydney, and they were amazing. In an uncharacteristic act of slightly drunken boldness I ran up on stage to get the towel they'd used. I was then stuck with a giant white towel for the rest of the evening, but it was a victory symbol that was by no means going to get discarded on King St.
Reading… Georgette Heyer novels, and a biography of Lord Byron. Also Girl With a Dragon Tattoo. And twitter. No need for newspapers when you have Twitter.
Watching… Entourage and Top Gear. I'm just as surprised by the latter as everyone else. Also people watching. People in tubes especially.
Buying… Shoes and more shoes. And an amazing lilac-y satchel bag that is big and unstructured, but remains a satchel none the less.
Wearing... Camel coloured trousers, oversized white tops, tucked in and belted. Brogues. Red blazers tucked into tutus with tights. Vintage boots.
Wanting…
Burberry. Shearling. Aviator. Amazingness.
Burberry - SHEARLING GIANT COLLAR TAILORED AVIATOR JACKET
Trying… to learn to cook. Current status: one batch of ANZAC biscuits, one batch of chocolate brownies. This does not a cook make, just an oompaloompa from too much self-sampling.
Loving…  Hyperbole and a Half. Some serious LOLs moments here. Especially the Why I'll Never Be An Adult.
Writing… Getting back in to freewriting. Pushing aside murky layers of distraction, waiting for that random word.
Inspired by… This week? Clearly Death Wears Diamond Jewellery. Also by random acts of thoughtfulness in the form of little presents put in my room (Maria)

I pretty much love this Erin Wasson x RVCA singlet top. Continuing to clash prints and textures as much as I want to!

You can follow me on Twitter. You know, if you want to.

Moments

One of the most intriguing people I am acquainted with posted this, and I've watched it four times already. Like her, I'm finding one of the youtube comments a wee bit thought provoking:

"i hate it, i hate it, i hate it. it made me cry. and my life is nothing like that. or just like that. and i think it's really sad that no matter what we do, there's nothing more to it than that."

And I think that yes, my life is also nothing like that, and just like that, both at the same time. But I think the beauty of it is that despite everything we do, it is still beyond our power to stretch moments out for longer than moments. Yes, we can record them and play them back, and manufacture them. We can pose them and impose them, even belittle and supercede them, but... a moment will always be just that one mere moment: That pause as life and time collide and swell, flesh out, flourish and ache, and you realise that this - this! - is a moment. And you try to feel it, really feel it, just as it pulls back, recedes, ebbs and passes by. And you are left with the residue, that slight throb of it-was-here-and-now-it's-gone-and-what-do-I-have-left-?. And that is sad. But that residue is also the beauty of it. Because then we have to try our damndest to grab it and love it and live it and appreciate and learn from it, and try to figure out why moment-residue is sticking all over us.

I dream about these shorts, I swear. They're so whimsical and dreamy. For the moment they are satisfying my craving for a crochet white minidress, which I want purely to tough it up with some motorbike boots, which I am also yet to find... After such a long shopping hiatus, it's hard to not run out and buy everything. Which is still doubly and triply stupid, because I may be in London, but I do not as yet have a job.
Lace bodysuit: Sportsgirl
Shorts: H&M
Boots: Sam Edelman

nom-nom-nom:

I love bookshelves. I miss my books so much, and I'm sad that they are all packed up, waiting, unable to show their spines to the world. Beauty and the Beast was always my favourite Disney because of that library...
